Blog “Liking” Bot?

Lately, out here on WordPress, I’ve found one blogger on just about every site I follow. He just came out of nowhere and now he’s listed as someone who likes a post everywhere I go. I thought it was just coincidence, but it kept happening over and over and now I clicked on a link (from a site I never visited before) that’s recommended at the bottom of a post I just read and there he is again.

It felt like some automated computer script that allows someone to “Like” multiple sites without actually visiting and reading. The person and his site seems real enough with thousands of followers. I was guessing it’s a marketing service he’s using and did a bit of googling.

From: https://www.kaspersky.com/resource-center/definitions/what-are-bots

“A ‘bot’ – short for robot – is a software program that performs automated, repetitive, pre-defined tasks. Bots typically imitate or replace human user behavior. Because they are automated, they operate much faster than human users. They carry out useful functions, such as customer service or indexing search engines, but they can also come in the form of malware – used to gain total control over a computer. Internet bots can also be referred to as spiders, crawlers, or web bots.”

Searched on Google and this seems to be legit. Shitty … but a thing.

They can leave comments too.

This past couple of months is the first time I’ve come across this on WordPress. It’s the crazy times we’re exposed to out on THE NET.

Has anyone else experienced this? I wonder if it will like this post?😁

UPDATE – the Bot liked it!!

I noticed the @name changes all the time.

*** It’s that time of year where I take a break from old WordPress. No reason to be concerned – all is well here. I’ll catch back up with everyone near the end of November. Sending peace to you all. ***

  1. Thank you for that information – I had the SAME experience with a certain named blogger as well. I was wondering HOW they even found me as I was brand new. I appreciate the research and your post!

  2. never noticed this..i wonder if there is a set # of followers required to be able to assign a “bot”. Life sure is crazy these days. One thought i had recently along these same lines ( artificial intelligence wise and other modern day BS) is that probably half or more of these magazine models we see are actually computer generated human photos that get sold to advertisers to use. It’s a pretty plausible notion – why pay a real human model if you can buy a digital one for way less? At any rate- i will look and see if i have a bot somewhere here- if not , i might just be jealous….lmao

  4. I’ve heard of this, but always wonder, what is the point? Do they get information and try to scam you down the line? I know you’re on a break but had to tell you – I worked out several times this week with my neighbor who has the Peloton app, it’s great!!

  5. Well, personally, I prefer the human factor❣️❣️

So I will NEVER use a bot to “like” anything for me 😃👍🏻 When you get a like from me, it’s authentic ❣️

Thanks for the info and enjoy your break ❤️🤗

  6. I decided to re-read your not post and saw your update! This is the same bot that has been following me….it freaked me out so I deleted every picture of me. My most recent blog post it didn’t like it, and I went to my followers and he’s not on it now….weird.

    2. I’m not sure if it causes any harm, its always the first to like most of my posts …that’s how I got clued in on it. I think he’s just trying to get folks to subscribe to his site. I don’t know? Weird for sure.
