“Box to go, please”

This week, I did something I never, ever do. I’ve been going to the Hungry Bear restaurant for years for breakfast with the guys on Thursdays and have never brought food home. Whatever I ordered ended up in my belly, not in a box. Well, today that all changed. I brought home about half of my “Cindy Lou” – scrambled eggs mixed with ham and bacon on a bed of seasoned hash browns, topped with sausage gravy, served with your choice of toast.

Yes I just added the most boring photo in blog history… but I’m smiling on my progress!

You can still enjoy your food and stop when you’re full, but let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. I know it should get easier in time. I just can’t believe I used to eat the whole thing. Sorry, I forgot to get a photo—it’s HUGE! I actually left very full in regard to the scale I use. Definitely a win. Determining my level of fullness is something that’s hard to gauge. I will continue to work on that.

I ended up going to Wally World after work to get some Tupperware. I got this beauty to take to The Bear. I figured I’ll be making this a habit, so why not bring my own box?

  1. Good for you, Dwight, for not feeling the need to polish your plate.

I have learned that it’s easier for me to bring home leftovers if I have my own container with me, that way I don’t have to feel bad about the throw-away boxes that end up in the landfill or in the oceans.

    1. That was my thought process, too. I knew going in I’d be bringing home food so why not bring my own container. We’ll see if it catches on with the other guys🤪. Felt great walking home full … but not overly full and the bonus I had enough leftover for another meal. Hope you’re doing well, Tanja😊

      1. Thank you, Dwight, I’m ok. And I also feel better if I don’t overeat.
I hope your friends will start bringing their own containers. It’s a win-win-win situation for the restaurants, customers, and environment.

  4. My grandad used to say that you should always leave the dinner table before feeling stuffed. I always struggled with the concept but learned to do it over the years ( with exceptions of course) but he lived in great health till his nineties😉

  5. I’m so happy for you! This is so inspiring that you have me paying attention to chewing, the flavors and asking myself if I’m full, or just eating because it’s there? Love the new box! Rock on! 💖
