Check out my first minimalism post if you haven’t already for a little context.
Guidelines – sell, donate, recycle
Day 1 – get rid of 1 item
Day 2 – get rid of 2 items
Day 3 – get rid of 3 items
And so on for 30 days
After 30 days create a blog post on your experience with some of the items you got rid of and how you now feel. Even if you can only get rid of 1 item per day, then please still partake. Start anytime, just has to be 30 consecutive days.
Here’s week three – total of 126 items

WOW! This is actually starting to get easier. Each item I’ve determined I no longer need or want and again it’s cleansing in so many ways. I love being able to look in my fridge, cupboards, and closets and just see items I will actually use. I’m done with the my first “sweep” of the house and will be heading out to the garage.
Peace,
Dwight
Wow! This is so cool! It seems like a lot of items to get rid of. I think I’d like to try this later on this year. It sounds like it would feel really good.

It does and I live alone now and am just surprised all I have that I no longer need.

It’s funny I bought those at Walmart after my divorce. My mom had come out to visit a couple times afterwards and on the second trip she made me go to one of those home stores and she bought me a new set. I didn’t get what the big deal was until a bit later after using the new set more. The Walmart set just started feeling to light and cheap. Now I’m an official silverware snob like my mom. I would of never guessed🤣

That’s funny..at 2am I wish I could purge my brain many of times. Working on ramping back up my meditation practice in that area. Interesting you got me thinking we often recycle many of our thoughts over and over. Like they come in, we obsess over them, we set them back on the shelf…repeat. We rarely show them the front door and say I’m good… you don’t need to come back anymore 🤔

It’s a process you’ve made look almost easy. We’ve got lots to sort through and rehome – or trash, because there’s no need for it any more. Mostly, I look at what I can truly let go (grandmother’s coat? No. The 53rd set of colored pencils? Yep!) and allow myself the time to feel why I’m hanging on to something. Is it fear of feeling the loss of something I haven’t actually had in a while? That is a huge challenge.

I get it, Liz. It has become easier for me I think because I’ve helped several elders move and in the back of my head I’m thinking omg one day their kids are going to have to sort through all of this when they are gone…and that to me isn’t fair to do. Also, giving up “things” has become easier since getting divorced over 5 years ago. Perspective is key. Having said all that I pulled out the green, white, brown Afghan from the back of the car yesterday afternoon that was heading to be donated. My mom made it for me and even though it had been sitting in a trunk not being used..I still wasn’t ready😊

Very cool! I have today off from work which is a rarity. One of my chores to do today is make sure to gather up all my Goldwill items and this weekend drop them off. This post inspired me to make sure that gray done! 👍🏻

Way to go – but how does anyone have too much taco seasoning? It is always on my list. 😐

This is so great. I’m not sure I could get rid of the silverware 🍴
Do you ‘thank’ the items and then get rid of them. I read somewhere we should do that. Thanks for being my paint and making my wall look lovely … now bugger off 😂😂

I just did the math—you’re on your way to 465 items purged. That sounds so freeing. I’m starting tomorrow.

As of this moment, I’m up to 63 things, and week one should be 50 items. I’m officially starting the count tomorrow when I donate what’s in my car.
