A different kind of scale

I recently came across this scale from the book Eat What You Love. This approach seems far more appealing than my weight scale, which can either bring screams of joy or make me say, “You’ve got to be kidding me.” I can see this scale helping me distinguish between wanting to eat and needing to eat.

I’m discovering that taking the time to question my state before and during a meal, and then listening to my body for signals, is a key tool in my practice of mindful eating.

So far, my true cues for being hungry are my stomach growling and a lower level of energy. Additionally, for me, true hunger comes on gradually, unlike the sudden onset of “hunger” when something emotional stirs.

  3. Breakfast and lunch I have to make sure I’m satisfied and not full due to work. I’ve definitely overate and it’s hard to work at my job having your stomach extended and feeling blah. I do go to full at dinner time though. I like this scale! Thanks for sharing!

  4. wow..that’s pretty interesting..i may have to try that. My belly fat has been…unsatisfying to m ever since i stopped lifting weights. I do hike, and when i can get a full 5 days in i start shedding it. But that doesnt always happen. Also, this scale touches on an idea of what actual hunger is..something most in the U.S. don’t truly understand compared to less fortunate countries.

    1. It’s a pretty interesting concept. Check out my prior blog Am I hungry? and tonight I’m posting It’s not a diet.

  5. Food’s became a bit of a pastime/ social event for me. It doesn’t help that restaurants always load up the plate to almost over flowing and you feel obliged to eat it all, because well, you paid for it!
